چکیده

In group protocols, larger computation and communication are consumed to causally order all messages transmitted in the network. Transactions in clients manipulate objects in servers by sending read and write requests to the servers. In this paper, we define significant messages, which are to be ordered at the application level, by using a conflicting relation among the transactions. We newly propose an object vector to causally order only the significant messages. The scheme of the object vector is invariant in the change of the group membership. We also show a TBCO (transactionbased causally ordered) protocol adopting the object vector, by which the number of messages to be causally ordered are reduced.

An Object-Oriented Approach for Replication Management

One of the main goals of the object oriented approach is software reuse Research in replication management brings forward many algorithms that often need reinventing the wheel to progress Our approach consists of providing high level building blocks for various replication protocols each one paying only for the mechanisms it uses Our goal is to encourage reusability of distributed abstractions ...

Decentralized and Continuous Consistency Management in Distributed Real-Time Databases with Multiple Writers of Replicated Data

We introduce the continuous convergence protocol for handling locally committed and possibly concurrent updates to replicated data objects in distributed real-time databases. The protocol is designed for systems where replicated database objects are used to share data between collaborating real-time applications. We define the properties of the protocol, and describe how it can be implemented u...

An Architecture for Object Replication in Distributed Systems

In this paper we present an architecture for developing replicated objects in object oriented distributed systems. The architecture is however general and the concepts can be adapted to non-object oriented distributed systems. The architecture speciies the main requirements for developing replicated objects in distributed systems, namely: the replicated object representation, the replicated obj...

Update Propagation of Replicated Data in Distributed Spatial Databases

When spatial objects are replicated at several sites in the network, the updates of a long transaction in a specific site should be propagated to the other sites for maintaining the consistency of replicated spatial objects. If any two or more transactions at different sites concurrently update some spatial objects within a given region, two spatial objects having spatial relationships should b...

A Generic Multicast Primitive to Support Transactions on Replicated Objects in Distributed Systems

Locking and atomic commitment are two fundamental problems underlying transaction management in fault-tolerant distributed systems. In this paper we discuss these problems in the context of an asynchronous system with replicated objects. We present a generic primitive, named Dynamic-Terminating-Multicast (or DTM) of which instances enable to implement a locking protocol and an atomic commitment...
